I was once a sucker for the osTicket product looking for a FOSS help desk application for my small company. I loaded it and liked hat I saw. It was great and a version 2 was to be released very soon.
Then I found a nasty bug, and another and another. I looked to the osTicket gang to see how far away version 2 was and found out that this was all a big lie. Version 2 had been just around the corner for almost 3 years it turned out. Many if not all of the users were having big problems and getting little to no response from the developers.
Then along came a branch of the software called eTicket. Anybody looking for osTicket really needs to look at eTicket instead. They took the last version of osTicket, fixed most of the major bugs, added many new features and released it. They maintain it and release updates frequently.

I don’t know what the deal is with osTicket’s developers (I heard Katrina did a number on the main guy) but until they can show a track record of product maintenance I would steer clear.
We have tested and use constantly Cerberus Ticketing (http://www.cerberusweb.com/). It is free for 3 users, more then enough for small companies. Hope this help.
