i’m sick of all these “current design trends” lists. WHY, you ask am i sick of them? because it’s not about us graphic designers following any set “trend”. it’s REALLY all about us graphic designers doing what we do, utilizing the tools available to us, and setting the trends ourselves based on the talents/skills we all possess as graphic designers. to me, for ANY graphic designer to take this or any other “trendy” list to be design law is just plain STUPID. WHY? because there are no laws that dictate what style graphic designers have to use to create what we create. just because something is particularly popular design-wise doesn’t mean that it’s going to STAY popular. the same thing goes with fashion. the clothing that is popular now has been out for a LONG time already, and yet, every single generation thinks they’re the first ones to “discover” it. it’s TOTALLY preposterous to think that the style of the 80’s is actually considered to be “popular” again, when that was one of THE most retardly ridiculous eras of time when it comes to fashion and design. just watch an 80’s music video, such as by the pet shop boys, dexey’s midnight runners, and so on, and tell me that those styles look “good”, and that we should all follow that “trend” of looking like we’re from the 80’s. To ANY graphic designer that reads this message: SET YOUR OWN TRENDS. DO NOT ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE SUCKED INTO THE VOID OF WHAT IS CONSIDERED TO BE “TRENDY”, OTHERWISE YOU WILL FALL INTO MEDIOCRITY.
I don’t take this as seriously as the guy above, I do love design, but I just think its cool to view others interpretations of things. I never took this post as “law.”
It’s really amazing to see the quality of designs people come up with. Not necessarily to copy or imitate them, but it serves as an inspiration really, to do better.
