I love simple sites… I think web designers always achieve great results when they merge simplicity and creativity. I love this quote too: “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” Leonardo da Vinci
HSBC’s website doesn’t look very simple. In fact, it looks like it was made ten years ago. Blackberry, GE and Dell designs on the other hand are definitely sexy.
There are a lot of sites in the list that in “looking” at them they seem simple but most of them are pretty bad. Their flow for the end user isnt easy. Some of them put a ton of text on main page. There mix use of fonts etc.
Some of the IA, Information Architecture is horrible as we as the UI, User Interface and the UX, User Experience.
Yes, Apple.com does get it right.
I dissagree. Half of these arn’t ’simple’ and lack user orientated design.
I would also argue that many of these designs lack branded personality and look a little ‘out of the box’.
Well, don’t forget to mention apple.com as well. I’m glad no one post microsoft.com’s newest redesign page. Also what about digg.com? ![]()
Many of these, if not most are nothing more then mediocre corporate work. nothing creative or simple. I’m not sure how they even got on this list. As mentioned above there are good sites missing here including Apple’s… - so I wonder on what basis were they selected?
Have to agree with the majority - most of these are far from clean and simple. Would hate to see your list of complex and messy sites.
But you did manage to get on Digg.
The landing/home pages for many of these sites may be visually pleasant but many of them fail horribly once you attempt to actually find or do something. Sadly, I know this from using a handful of them on a regular basis.
Content and ease-of-use should always be the true measure of a successful design.
I think some of these logos are great examples of simple professional design. Anyone here complaining about designs being “too simple” and “boring” clearly know nothing about logo design.
It’s obvious usability and user experience was not a criteria here. Some of these sites are atrociously bad experiences, Canon and AT&T both come to mind…
Some of your images are not rendering properly for example “Cisco” WebSite, the image which you have used is not rendering properly and quality of images are bad enough. Could you please have a look at it.
was the content of this blog post rushed to meet a deadline? Most of these sites are not simple in regards to information architecture. Impressive is not what I would call most of these sites
Ok I’m sorry to lump on more criticism but it really is disappointing to be lured in with such an enticing title only to find such mediocre (and that’s being kind) content.
First of all - grammar *IS* important. This article was just a tad painful to read. But I’ll be kind here and suggest that the author’s not a native English speaker / writer. In which case, I suppose I could applaud the effort. I certainly couldn’t write as well in Greek or French for example. But on the other hand, I also wouldn’t try writing in a foreign language if I’m attempting to publish a professional website…
I also with the earlier comments. The majority of these sites are most certainly NOT examples of SIMPLE web design (by “simple” I expect you mean “user friendly” i.e. easy to use and get things done quickly - I am an HSBC client, I frequent that site, and I still scratch my head trying to get things done). I certainly am not feeling “impressed” by most of them either.
And finally, another nod to earlier comments: You have Dell listed here (seriously, have you used that site?) but somehow forgot to include Apple.com?
Nope. No excuses. This sucked. Sorry.

Loved the article, thank you! Anyone got ideas on how this website - http://www.3dgamestudio.com/ - could be improved? The owner would like to make some changes to it in the future.
These designs are good looking and futurisitc in designs. More on graphics and interesting.- www.saveformore.com

Half of these sites are anything but simple. Your quality of posts is lacking-
