You missed out on the obvious FireBug, but even more so on Web Developer toolbar which has a lot of this features and more.
Honestly I can live without firebug, but web developer toolbar is just awesome, and a necessity.
Yea the main fact that you missed the single greatest thing to happen to web development is a major fail on your part. Going to go bury this on Digg now. And most of these can be rolled up into one extension called the Web developer tool bar.
Wait. No Add-On list for developers is complete without Firebug. You can edit stylesheets, as well as javascript, and static HTML, all while testing. As well as be able to find where different elements are in the code. I’d have to say that is the #1 most useful dev tool, I have been using it for over a year, and it has made my life a whole lot easier.
Wow, awesome. I spent the last few days playing with Googles “Chrome” Browser but I think its all the cool plug ins for FireFox that make it the best out there. http://www.datools.net.tc
In response to the person above who was claiming that this is why Firefox shall forever be better than Chrome, I’d like to inform you that Chrome is open-source as well, so in a matter of time all sorts of these add-ons will be on Chrome as well. I’m hoping this means even more competition which is always good for us internet users ![]()
Nice list. I love FireFTP and have used it for a while now. Mighty Handy! I had a small problem once and emailed the guy that did it and he got back with me in no time. httt://www.affordablepcgeek.com
Good collection – but you missed out the obvious ones FireBug and Web Developer.
I will also recommend Greasemonkey – I made some scripts that assists me in development and testing.
Awesome, I’d never heard of font-finder, that’s very useful, many times inspecting text with WebDev/Firebug doesn’t give you all the info you’re looking for.
And yes, no webdev toolkit is complete without WebDev toolbar and Firebug. WebDev toolbar is usually my first go-to guy for quick inspections, but when you really need to dig deep into the nitty gritty, Firebug is king.
Awesome. I’ve used some of these programs before. Others not so much. It’s a good thing you posted an article, because I had been dying to use some of these extensions again, but I couldn’t find them, because I couldn’t remember the names of them. So, thanks for that.
Aardvark is another to add to the list of “OH, You HAVE to add THIS one cuz it’s the BEST!” entries. It is very useful.

I don’t know how many times I’ve seen IE Tab listed as one of the add-ons that developers must have when it is a piece of crap. Which version of IE does it render? The one that is currently installed on my machine? As a designer we have to design for IE6/7/8. Not because we want to, because we have to. The majority of users out there use IE.
