Agree with Bruce.
There’s a handful of logos in here that work despite the gradient effects. The rest compensate by adding them.
Gradients are really hard to pull off. They might be the most misused element in design.
A lot of these logos are great on first glance, but I feel like those are the ones that are being super trendy and thus won’t outlast that trend the way good logos should…
Gradients are very hard to use with silk screening. If you want your logo on a piece of hardware, stay away from gradients.

Awesome collection!
Just to warn, the South Pacific Imports Distribution, Mad Compass, Cocoastuff logos are duplicated ![]()
I think that the colorful amoeba/sphearical thingy is quickly becoming what the swoosh was back in the early nineties. This post is evident of that with seven logos having some kind of variety of that.
I work in the sign design industry, which is an application most logo designers fail to consider when putting a logo together. Gradients are easier to accomplish on signs then they once were, thanks to high resolution digital printers, but in illuminated applications they are still problematical and in all cases increase costs. So for clients who will be requiring a lot of signage gradients should be avoided or, at the very least, a non-gradient version of the logo for sign use should be considered.

Note how many of these logos, good as they are, require a colored background to make the desired effect. The more photo-tricks, the less versatility.
Some really impressive logos there. My personal favorites are definitely Plastic whale and magicthree ![]()

Thanks for sharing some great logo designs, the Apple logo is a great example of a successful logo using a smooth gradient effect.
This is really one of the best logo collection that I have found on the net. Thx for the list. A lot of inspiration here..
It’s so sad to see the UPS logo in this trendy new batch of upstarts. I’m really starting to see just how much UPS ruined their beautiful Paul Rand mark with their recent redesign….
It’s true, most of them are quite eye catching. But logos should be used on many different media and not only on a LCD screen. Honestly, most of them in black and white or on a T-shirt would loose all their effect.
Good Logo design is a bit more complicate than just adding shadow and gradient to a random shape on a textured background.
And Bunzy… seriously?

Much like the “attack of the swoosh” in the 80s and 90s, under which we are still suffering the effects, now we are under an assault of cliched gradients. Once someone does it, whatever the trend, every designer seems to fall into lock step behind the trend.

I feel like just about any of these logos would be just as strong if not stronger without their gradient effects. Not that it’s a terrible thing to have a gradient version of your logo; but it should work just as well in black and white on a thrice-faxed paper letterhead as it does on a full-color website to be a truly memorable trademark.

Wow, again with the superlatives. “Masterpieces?” There are some here, but also many examples of mediocrity and some outright dogs. Perhaps you received the readership you sought, but claiming much more than “interesting” or “nice” is an overall disservice and yet another example of crying wolf online.
