As most of you guys already know that couple of week ago we had a logo redesign contest for Smashing Apps where we invited our community to take part and work around to design an upcoming logo. We have got a great response and criticism as well but still thanks to our community who understand the vision for this event. This was absolutely for bringing new talent in the front of millions of people and give chance to those who could never show their work to the world. Anyways, now let us tell you how the overall contest went for us. Collectively we have got 300+  proposed logo designs at Cullogo. Few of them are truly professional and made it hard for us to make selection because there were some very outstanding submissions. We also received some down the quality logo designs that are not worth sharing here but we will be proud to share shortlisted logos including winner of the contest.

Well, now back to the shortlisted nominations. There are around 15 logo design ideas that can be considered on different priorities but few of these are rocking and really gave us hard time to calculate multiple factors to pick out the one as the winner and no luck for others.  This doesn’t mean that those who could not win the contest didn’t design a professional logo but unfortunately we have to choose one as the winner otherwise we could have 5 or more winners who designed fine logo concepts for Smashing Apps. As our commitment, we are listing below the personal information of those designers as well who were shortlisted best nominations. You can find their name, country, twitter/facebook profile and website address where available. This is the best what we can give them in return to these guys who worked specially for us and anyone from our readers may want to get in touch with them to offer them any project. Yes, we hope it will work.

Many thanks to all the participants who submitted their concepts and congratulations to those who are  featured here as shortlisted nominations.

Ok, so who is the winner?  Hakan Balkan

Yes! we really like his concept showing below as our upcoming logo. Our selection may not satisfy all our readers but believe us we put our thoughts in multiple directions and considered color schemes, simplicity, uniqueness, and experimented with our new design that is under development to empower our brand identity.  We tried our best and we hope we are successful to satisfy our valued readers.

Great choice Naveed! I agree with you here! :D

I really do like the new logo choice! I cannot wait to see how it could be implemented into a new design! Awesome work and kudos goes out to the winner :) !

Wow i don’t like this at all its so unfinished and unoriginal

I agree with you here, its kind of similar to the IBM water industry logo in its design, but still very nicely made.

I thought Andrej’s logo hands down was the strongest.

Hakan’s Logo looks some kind of Microsoft… don’t like that.

I like Rana Majumder. I think it works best with your site.

I like mine lol!!!!!! I really liked Hakan’s logo since the begining. I’m glad he is the winner, eventhough there are other as good works :) Congratulations Hakan!! :D

Meh. I don’t much care for your winning choice – doesn’t work too well in black and white; the physical shape of the whole thing on the eyes is not very nice; the physical shape of it is not great for optimising space, particularly important in web work – and finally it’s just too Web 2.0 and doesn’t seem to go with what you guys have been doing up to now. Unless you’re about to change the design of the whole site to fit this new look… which would be a shame if you ask me.

Hey,

I’d like to see the reasons behind choosing a logo or another, since choosing a logo isn’t just a matter of aesthetics, but communication and marketing.

Thank you very much… I love here, i love all of you… :)

well it may look nice at first, but look it closely and you´ll see a bad logo , looks pretty much unfinisehd and not very aesthetic. The height of the logo is going to be a problem when you try to arrange it on the site..

By the way its amazing the bad taste showned in the “Other Shortlisted Ideas”. I guess you guys picked the “not so bad” among the “really bad”

Hope it serves your needs in the end, i just think its not a good logo, like said before there is no concept behind it.

waiting for new theme with new logo :)

I second the motion, Peter. The shortlisted entries aren’t really that good. The winning logo really looks unfinished. Look closely on the mark. What’s that blue little flame doing inside the big blue flame (or letter S)? It looks like it’s been cropped on the upper part.

I wonder when will SmashingApps start a contest for their website makeover?

If anyone wants anything for the logo i can show it. Just tell to me…

LOL. The winning logo looks like someone was making a twitter icon and decided to use it for the contest.

They were all great! Use ‘em all and change logo once a week.

Yes i liked it and i put it to my twitter background. Because this is my work. :)

and maded specially for SmashingApps

I liked this logo very much. Someone is saying this logo is not completed or cropped. No, if it is not cropped it will not like to “S”. I thought very much. Thanks Hakan. I like your logo as a professional graphic designer…

And please change your interface with this logo… I m waiting…

All the fonts are beautiful! Oliver D. Santos is my best love!

I just have one thing to say… “if you don’t work for it, if you don’t take the time to do it, then where is your right to criticize the hard work of others? If you think you will do it a million times better don’t talk… SHOW US MASTERS!!!!!” At the end, the people who took the time to design deserve a little respect not your cynicism. So, I would invite the people who are saying the designs are so bad to show the good ones ;)

The first thing I thought when I saw the winning logo was ‘British Gas’!

Congratulations Hakan Balkan!
Congratulations to SmashingApps too.

Congratulation to Hakan Balkan , your logo is good.
Though my fav is Maria Cristina Berrio.
