I use at least four of them..

  2. Computer Repair says:

Thank you for this great list. We now need a list for Open Source enterprise replacements.

  3. Catharina says:

Very nice list, but I think Dolphin should not be considered as open source. They claim that on heir website but it is licensed under a creative commons license and that is not common for software. The approved open source licenses are listed here: http://www.opensource.org/licenses/alphabetical/

They claim also that you can only use it if you register at their website for a free or payed version.

  4. Lisa says:

I use to of these word press, and open office and should try the others

I was just at http://thestartconference.com where Matt Mullenweg, founder of WordPress, gave a talk. Some of these aren’t the best in my opinion. I could never get Mindquarry to work and Open Workbench is a joke. Sea Monkey and Open Office are both pretty cool. For a more in depth list of great open source apps, check out http://www.transitionchoices.com/cgi-bin/article.pl?id=17

  9. Free Xbox 360 Elite says:

Great list. I recommend a lot of these applications to my friends all the time.

  10. Carlos says:

Great list.. Some I’ve never heard about.
    Some I already use.

    Thanks.

  11. this list is ridiculous says:

and here i thought that the list would be actual useful, commonly used applications that most people don’t know about or are aware of.

things like oh apache, php, bind, mysql, etc. but no, it’s a random list of useless ‘web 2.0’ CMS systems that are (except for a couple) pretty much terrible.

bugzilla? you kidding me? there are a billion better trouble ticket systems….etc…

  12. Rob says:

Some interesting choices..and omissions, but a nice list.

  13. Tiberiu says:

Definitely you should have added Mozilla Firefox… and maybe some other…

  14. Thomas Pedersen says:

Good resources of the more less used by still great open source projects. However, check out this resource for more great open source software – Open Source Alternative – http://www.osalt.com

They list well-known commercial product and lets you search for the open source alternatives.

  15. Jim McDish says:

Open source apps totally rock, they are the only ones that can be trusted.

  18. Brent Clay says:

Nicely done. Thanks for info. Mantis is another very good bug tracking application.

  19. bigwinner says:

Thank you for this list. I’ve used a few of these apps at work and home (WordPress, Bugzilla, OpenOffice) and was very satisfied with their capabilities.

  20. 工控展览网 says:

    Nicely done. Thanks for info.

  21. KC Sunshine says:

Yeah, nice list….I will check a few of these out. Thanks

  22. Carl says:

Applications that can definitely help. Not all that new though. WordPress has been around for at least a year.

  23. Christopher Cashell says:

All in all, some good stuff there.

However, based on personal experience, I would definitely recommend Request Tracker (RT) over OTRS. I found it easier to deal with, a lot more flexible, and was generally more impressed with it. Having used it for a couple of years now, it has definitely valided the decision.

  24. Bill Gatees says:

the pollroom.com should be added. as it allows people to make suggest their own polls on important subject like; who will win the presidential election? Black Obama or Old man with Cain or who is hotter Jessica Alba or Jessica Rabbit.

  25. adelaide web design says:

    This is great, thanks

This is an excellent list, I have bookmarked this site and I will be coming back.

    Thanks

  28. JQ Johnson says:

Catherina might be amused to observe that www.opensource.org licenses its own materials under a creative commons license. It’s interesting that they don’t include the creative commons attribution license as a valid open source license. One reason why is that the CC license doesn’t demand source code distribution — it is completely appropriate, but not open source, for free distribution of binaries. Nevertheless, a CC license attached to full source code seems to me to be a completely reasonable open source solution, so I consider Dolphin open source.
